The objectives of CRIET are directly linked to the needs and economic interests of the textile finishing companies. The main objective of CRIET is to inform companies, represented through its members, about existing and future legislation which affects or will affect their business. This notably concerns European Union legislation. Naturally, CRIET also endeavours to inform the relevant national and European authorities about the specific interests of the sector.

In order to effectively meet these objectives, personal contacts between individual companies of its member federations are established and promoted. In addition, discussions on technical issues are held and information is gathered and exchanged. Whenever necessary or required, CRIET provides statements for European institutions, such as the European Commission and the European Parliament. CRIET actively participates in the activities of EURATEX, the European umbrella organisation for the textile and clothing industry.

The areas most closely monitored by CRIET are:

• environmental policy,
• trade policy,
• market developments,
• intellectual property rights, and
• research and development
