CRIET Congress 2007 (pdf)

CRIET is the European branch-organisation for the textile finishing industry.

The essence of textile finishing is giving fabrics the visual, physical and aesthetic properties which consumers demand. The main processes involved in giving the products the required properties are:

  • bleaching
  • dyeing (yarn, fabric, ready-made garments)
  • printing
  • coating / impregnating
  • applying various finishings

In most cases, the textile finishing process is followed by a manufacturing process, giving the final product its particular shape.

The main product categories are:

  • clothing textiles
  • interior textiles (furnishing fabrics, curtains, carpets)
  • household textiles (bed / bath and table linen)
  • technical textiles (automotive fabrics, geo- and medical textiles)

Commission Finishing

Commission finishers occupy an important and special place in the textile finishing industry. The companies place their production capacity, specially trained employees and creative power at the disposal of their customers, who are mostly converters and other textile companies. Textile commission finishers are characterised by an extensive knowledge of the various finishing processes and they have an extremely flexible organisation, enabling them to react quickly to changing market conditions.
